Art of Persuasion with Beth Granger, Carlee Myers & Jonathan Pritchard

We had a spirited conversation on the art of persuasion with Beth Granger, Carlee Myers, and Jonathan Pritchard on this week’s GoalChat. Beth Granger is a LinkedIn specialist and an Exactly What to Say™ Certified Guide, Carlee Myers is founder of The Stress Less Company, and Jonathan Pritchard is founder of ZAVANT enterprises. The panel talked about persuasion, along with communication, authenticity, alignment, and so much more.

What is Persuasion

  • Jonathan: Persuasion is helping change someone’s beliefs for their own betterment
  • Carlee: Getting people in your camp
  • Beth: When you hear the word persuasion, you may think it’s a negative, but that’s not necessarily so
  • Jonathan: “persuasion” and “truth” are not the same thing; they are cousins at best

Improving Persuasion Skills

  • Beth: Have more conversations; start with curiosity
  • Jonathan: Just like with painting, you need to practice reality before you can use it for things that don’t exist. When you learn to lie well, you get better at telling people the truth
  • Carlee: Be a great role model, so you do not have to persuade at all
  • Carlee: 1. Show up as you are 2. Be visible 3. Be authentic
  • Jonathan: Prefers the word “alignment” to “authentic.” You want your stage performance to be in alignment with your highest principles, but dialed up

How to Show Up Better

  • Beth: Show up with confidence. It takes practice.
  • Jonathan: Be more dangerous than the situation you are in
  • Carlee: Appropriate trust is trusting yourself to handle a situation
