Mindset with Dr Alexander Chriest, Jess Dewell & Rachael Wolff

What is Mindset and how does it impact every aspect of your life? This week, I discussed Mindset with Dr. Alexander Chriest, Chief Content Officer, Impact Human Performance; Jess Dewell, Managing Partner, Operations + Strategy, Red Direction; and author Rachael Wolff, Letters from a Better Me.

Alexander, Jess, and Rachael shared what mindset means to them, their experiences with the topic, and ideas on how to reframe your mindset, and so much more.

Mindset Is …

  • Alexander: Stories we tell ourselves. Where our energy flows, our attention goes
  • Rachael: Perspectives that turn into beliefs. We empower ourselves and disempower ourselves
  • Jess: Stoicism. When we know what we can and cannot control, we can change

How to Reset Mindset

  • Rachael: If you don’t show up and do the work, nothing will change. Connect to and absorb the work. Remember, the body, mind, and spirit all work as one
  • Alexander: Identify the 3 words you use to describe your best self. Now, think about which situations cause you to not feel that way. When you can identify that, you can catch yourself before your mindset goes off track
    • Alexander’s “words” are optimistic, challenged, engaged
    • Jess’ words are grace, curiosity, and truth
    • Rachael’s are connection, acceptance, awareness
  • Jess: When we look at what we do, we can see what we are prioritizing. Are you willing to do what it takes? If you are not, it just means you are supposed to grow in a different way

Goals from Our Guests

  • Jess: TheDailyStoic.com talks about the 4 tenets of Stoicism: Courage, Temperance, Justice, and Wisdom. Write 3 sentences about something bigger than yourself, see all the parts of it, and journal how you fit into it.
  • Rachael: Look at what you can do right now to improve your mindset (meditate, be aware of how you talk to yourself, eat something healthy)
  • Alexander: We are in light switch mentality (on/off). People think things are all or nothing. Instead, approach things as a dial (1-10). A win can be anywhere in that range. Find your wins.

Final Thoughts

  • Alexander: No step is too small
  • Rachael: Trust the process, allow the shift
  • Jess: Don’t forget to pause
