On this week’s GoalChatLive I talked about creativity with cartoonist Chari Pare and creative producer Damion Taylor. Even though they hadn’t met prior to the show, Chari and Damion found they had a lot in common, including their love of timers, Venn diagrams, and journaling. Note: I am also a fan of all of the above.
Chari and Damion shared their backstories, what stops people from being creative, and how to tap into and/or replenish your creative spirit. They also discussed their favorite “other” creative projects (Chari’s is making coloring books, Damion’s is music), thoughts on cooking, and so much more.
What is Creativity?
- Chari: Being inspired by life and sharing information in a way that helps others. It’s the difference between art for arts sake and art for people’s sake
- Damion: The ability to explore ideas and situations, be adaptable, and look at things from different angles
What Stops People from Being Creative
- Chari: Fear, money, stress
- Damion: Procrastination
Tapping into Your Creativity
- Damion: Work on the things you can control and stop worrying about the things you can’t. You may come up with solutions when doing other things
- Chari: Running, exercise, brainstorming
- Damion: Spend time along, even if it’s only for 5 or 10 minutes
- Chari: Give yourself permission to explore

Goals
- Damion: Challenge yourself. Find 15 red things, 10 things, and why are they connected. See how they tell a story about you
- Chari: Take 15 minutes to do what you want to do for yourself
Final Thoughts
- Damion: It’s okay to give yourself permission to enjoy things/be creative
- Chari: Just do it!
