Courage with Alison Arnoff, Rusty Gaillard & Iris Goldfeder

This week on GoalChatLive, I talked about courage with Alison Arnoff, Dare2Be Coaching; executive coach and author Rusty Gaillard; and Iris Goldfeder of GasStoveCreative. The conversation could have easily been on fear and self-doubt, as well as mission and motivation. Courage is the ability to move forward – or through – discomfort, fear, anxiety, doubt in order to reach your goals and get to the life you want.

Alison, Rusty, and Iris shared their backgrounds – and their connections to courage – as well as tips for summoning courage, maintaining momentum, and more.

Finding Courage

  • Rusty: You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with (Jim Rohn). Pay attention to the people around you; surround yourself with those who will support you.
  • Alison: For courage to be possible, first there has to be the dream. People get so caught up with the how; you need to discover what could be.
  • Rusty: Being able to dream starts with putting yourself in that safe environment. Do what you need to do to get in that mindset
  • Iris: Don’t let life stop you. You can look at obstacles as walls or stairs.
  • Alison: How people show up in one aspect is how they show up in all areas of your life. Be unified is your approach to personal as well as professional
  • Iris: Bring your authentic self into everything you do

Goals

  • Alison: It starts with the dream. Sit down someplace quiet and write down what you want and why, as well as what it will mean to you, to the people in your life, and to the world. When they why becomes powerful, it starts to pull. And you need less courage,
  • Iris: Figure out your why, and how do you want to set that goal for yourself, and do it in little chunks.
  • Rusty: Zoom out. It’s easy to zoom in on the problems. Look at the big picture.

Final Thoughts

  • Alison: What would change in your life if your gave yourself permission to pursue your dreams?
  • Rusty: Being nervous or afraid is a good sign that you are going in the right direction.
  • Iris: Get through and do it!
