The Changing Workplace with Victoria Lynne Hannu & Michele Heyward

This week on #GoalChatLive I talked about The Changing Workplace with Victoria Lynne Hannu, CEO & Founder, Heart & Soul CEO, and Michele Heyward, Founder of PositiveHire. We discussed what leaders need to do to maintain their company culture and how team members can thrive in this age of hybrid and remote work.

Victoria and Michele shared what this topic means to them, as well as anecdotes, insights, and tips from the employer and employee side.

Good Company Culture

  • Michele: Inclusivity. You can be your authentic self.
  • Victoria: Interaction. A respectful workplace is key, especially since these days we have 5 generations and a melting pot of backgrounds in the same workplace.
  • Victoria: It starts with leadership. Leaders need to understand what they want culture to look and feel like. Also it’s important to address values and purpose.
  • Michele: Culture, and sub cultures, matter in all locations … and they could be different, based on the employee’s perspective.

Embracing Tech and Hybrid Work

  • Michele: The struggle is having to do everything at once. What is the simpliest thing you can do to get your team used to tech.
  • Victoria: Remember, tech does not replace personal connection, it facilitates it.

Goals

  • Michele: Leaders, listen and learn from your employees. Read responses from employee surveys and respond.
  • Michele: Employees, Sit down and design the workplace culture you desire: create a visual representation or vision board.
  • Victoria: Expectations are key, for leaders and team members. What are the three things that irritate you about the company? Then, ask what is the expectation that is not being met? You’ll find the response has to do with you.

Final Thoughts

  • Victoria: Work isn’t hard, especially if you love what you are doing. When you are in the right place, working for the right company, you’ll know.
  • Michele: The change is not rebellion, it’s the redesigning of the current workplace. Voice your concerns. Listen to employees.
