Speaking & Accessibility with Bobbie Carlton, John Chen, and Robbie Samuels

What started as a show on speaking goals evolved into a wonderful conversation about speaking and accessibility. My guests were Innovation Women founder Bobbie Carlton; John Chen, CEO of Engaging Virtual Meetings; and virtual event designer Robbie Samuels. The trio was on in October, talking about Virtual Meetings, and I just had to bring them back!
Bobbie, John, and Robbie talked about the value of speaking and different types of stages – and opportunities, ways to be a more accessible speaker and event host, and so much more.

The Value of Speaking

  • Bobbie: Representation
  • John: It’s fun. And it’s your platform
  • Robbie:  Getting to practice what you believe in front of an audience

How to Be a More Accessible Speaker/Event Host

  • Bobbie: Plan events – and find speakers – with DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) in mind
  • John: Get in the shoes of your audience, so you can create the experience for them
  • Robbie: Be mindful of what you put on slides; make sure your content is accessible to all

Speaking & Accessibility #GoalChatLive

Goals from our Guests

  • John: Reach out to John to be interviewed on his show. Also, do one thing to improve your virtual setup
  • Robbie: Do a 10-talk tour (live, virtual, on podcasts)
  • Bobbie: Make speaker friends

Final Thoughts

  • Robbie: Improve every time by 5% you speak or host and you will be phenomenal
  • Bobbie: +1. If you can;t add anything of value, say +1
  • John: Set goals with DEB. And collaborate with others
