According to our guests, decision-making boils down to being honest with yourself (Jack), taking a moment to pause (Lisa), and assessing the situation, rationally but also emotionally (Fallon).
Fallon, Lisa, and Jack share the best decisions they ever made, their philosophies on personal and professional decision-making, and so much more.
Why People Have Trouble Making Decisions
- Jack: So many external and internal factors can impact someone’s decisions. You can tell when someone is passionate about their decisions
- Lisa: Society’s view of success. People need the concentrate more on being, rather than the doing
- Fallon: Fear. People are afraid of making the wrong decision
How to Make Decisions
- Fallon: Go through a series of questions.
- Start with what is the issue you are trying to solve? What’s the real problem? Do I actually need to make a decision?
- What is the outcome? The real objective?
- What are the alternatives? What alternative am I ruling out?
- What are my perceived consequences? Are these real consequences?
- Do I have all the information I need? What do I need to do? How much risk can I bare?
- Jack: Think about these questions:
- What could be done?
- What should be done?
- What must be done?
- Lisa: Use sticky notes for getting things out of your head and moving things around. Look for the things you can do that will move you towards your goal. Also, figure out what success looks like, and move toward that.
