Research with Polly Campbell & Stan Robinson, Jr.

On this week’s #GoalChatLive I talk about Research with podcaster and fellow Mango author Polly Campbell (YOU, Recharged) and Stan Robinson, Jr., Digital Selling Trainer, Vengreso. The thing about research is this: you can research and you can be researched. We discuss both sides of the research conversation, along with authenticity, relationship development, and ways to avoid the research rabbit holes.

What can be discovered through research?

  • Polly: Information – I’m always reading – and authenticity. When researching, I look for people who authentically meet my message and vice versa
  • Stan: Your audience. Salespeople also need to understand their market and their customer’s customers
  • Stan: People will research you on Google, and your LinkedIn profile should appear in one of the first three results. Your LinkedIn profile needs to reflect who you are and how you help

Social Media & Research

  • Stan: Social networks are a powerful tool for listening for research. Research different channels to see where and how people respond
  • Polly: Use social media to build relationships. Look for commonalities to start conversations
  • Stan: When you find the person on LinkedIn you’d like to have a relationship with, check their profile to see if they are actively posting. Then comment on their post, adding to the discussion. Tag them in the comments

Goals

  • Stan: Look up the people you want to connect with on LinkedIn. Make it a habit to add social media sleuthing to your process
  • Polly: Be intentional with your research. Have missions aligned with your projects. Decide what you want to know and write it in a sentence and give yourself a time limit

Final Thought

  • Think about the value you have to offer others
