Networking with Steven Rowell, Annie P. Ruggles & Brynne Tillman

On this week’s GoalChat, we had a fabulous conversation about Networking with Steven Rowell, Strategic Speaker Institute; Annie P. Ruggles, The Non-Sleazy Sales Academy; and Brynne Tillman aka LinkedIn nerd, Social Sales Link. GoalChat is networking in action – each week, I bring together people who, unless it’s on purpose, had never met before, yet need to be part of one another’s circle.

Steven, Annie, and Brynne’s shared some of their networking tactics, experiences, and favorite conversation starters – and enders, along with tons of practical tips. They showed genuine enthusiasm about the topic – and enjoyment of one another. It was awesome!

Define Networking

  • Annie: The rolodex – having anything you need at anytime; thinking about what other people need; building a rolodexing ecosystem
  • Brynne: LinkedIn is a self-updating rolodex, it’s the ability to search and filter your network’s rolodex
  • Brynne: Networking is mutual amplification — connecting with non-competing advisors and vendors who serve the same clients you do, so you can lift each other through introductions, content, and collaboration.
  • Steven: Leading with value first as you build a heart-felt community

Favorite Forms of Networking

  • Steven: Hosting a group/mastermind
  • Brynne: In-person networking
  • Annie: Volunteering

Networking #GoalChatLive

Goals

  • Brynne: Create your LinkedIn search link, so you can easily let your connections know who exactly from their tribe you need to meet. Go to Search, click People, insert titles, location, industry, 1st degree connections. And bookmark/save the search
  • Annie: If someone pops into your head, message them and say they’ve been on your mind today
  • Bonus from Deb: Do this once a day
  • Bonus from Brynne: Send a video message
  • Bonus from Steven: Send an audio message
  • Steven: Make a list of people you authentically know and send them a LinkedIn recommendation

Final Thoughts

  • Brynne: Detach from what the person is worth to you, attach what you are worth to the person. You will win every time
  • Steven: Come to networking with the spirit of being genuinely fascinated with other people
  • Deb: Make sure you are in a good mood when you go networking – it shows!
  • Annie: Super connectors must be protected at all costs. You will meet the majority of most people from 1 person – protect them, check in with them
