We went full-meta on this week’s #GoalChatLive with a conversation about conversations! My guests: Matt Bailey, a marketing and communications educator, SiteLogic; Pamela Lippitt, a communication conclusions consultant, Hill Street Group; and Leisa Reid is a speaker whisperer/trainer and founder of Get Speaking Gigs Now.
The panel shared their definition of conversations, its value, and their other go-to topics. They also offered a ton of tips, along with anecdotes, on how to approach and make the most of conversations.
What are Conversations
- Matt: They can take any form – family, professional, interpersonal; everything requires a conversation
- Pam: It’s a dialogue. That’s where the listening come in

Impact of a Conversation

Goals
- Leisa: If you are upset about something, do first-degree naming. It’s a conversation with yourself, but you can say it out loud or in your head. For example, you say, “steering wheel, mileage, odometer.” It reminds you that all this traffic/frustration is interpretation and it brings you back to center of what are the facts.
- Pam: Watch for signals of non-verbal communication
- Matt: Remove obstacles to communication. Put your cellphone away
- Bonus: Answer the question – What are your 3 go-to topics of conversation?
Final Thoughts
- Pam: The conversation is all about your journey
- Leisa: Have fun! Do what makes your heart sing
- Matt: Arm yourself with questions
