Boundaries are guidelines. And they are essential for personal and professional success. This week, I talked about Boundaries with business growth strategist Lisa Danforth; Jess Dewell, Red Direction; and Pam Drzewiecki, Powerful Purpose, on #GoalChatLive.
Success is only possible when we have boundaries (Lisa). Boundaries keep you safe, sane, and fun (Jess). It feels good to know your boundaries (Pam).
Lisa, Jess, and Pam discuss how to set and enforce boundaries. They share their boundaries’ stories and experiences, offer tips for incorporating boundaries into your life, and more.
What are boundaries?
- Lisa: Boundaries are about us, not other people. When expressing your boundaries, be clear, direct, and respectful; how it lands is up to the other person
- Jess: They are the map we draw, although boundaries can change
- Pam: Boundaries come in many forms (financial, health, personal). They can expand to grow with you, but also help you feel safe
How to Set and Enforce Boundaries
- Pam: Say them out load; let your family, clients, etc. know. Accountability and communication are key
- Lisa: Step one is to pause. Be clear on the goal and the outcome
- Jess: There’s a saying, “Know what you can control.” Know what’s going on in your 3 brains: head, heart, and gut brains. Be clear on what you are planning/creating

Goals
- Jess: Set a boundary and commit to it for 2 weeks; beginning, middle, and an end. And check in with it
- Lisa: Set a boundary with someone you need to establish a boundary with, articulate it. “I love/respect you enough to have this difficult conversation”
- Pam: Pause, discover, and design what your boundaries look like
Final Thoughts
- Pam: Live your life in purpose and not driven by circumstances
- Lisa: Boundaries are habits; you can create new habits that sustain
- Jess: Start where you are, use what you have, and do what you can
