On this episode of GoalChat, we explored the world of webinars with Dr. Judith Briles, The Book Shepherd; Brigette Callahan of Babilon Arts; and Julie Migliacci of Revent Consulting. Between Judith’s experience as a presenter, Brigette’s slide specialty, and Julie’s event tech expertise, they were the perfect panel to discuss what works — and what doesn’t — when it comes to webinars.
We talked about people’s love-hate relationship with webinars, the importance of having a clear purpose, and strategies for keeping attendees engaged from start to finish. Whether you’re an entrepreneur, consultant, thought-leader, or more than one of the above, hosting or speaking at webinars is likely part of your business. Be engaging – and prepared. Everyone will have a much better experience.
Webinars Today
- Brigette: A great webinar starts with a great title!
- Judith: Know the message to make it pop/grab you. Title can change, same webinar
- Julie: A webinar should be a quick hit. Doing a shorter webinar (30 minutes) will get a lot more people signing up. Be prepared.
Webinar Hosting Tips
- Julie: Outsource tech
- Judith: Simplicity, create handouts
- Brigitte: Have a second monitor; practice the tools, use a clicker
- Brigette: Address one person at a time
- Julie: Say the weird thing; be human
- Judith: Give them more than what you say you will deliver
- Brigette: Think of a slide as a billboard. What feeling are you trying to evoke?
Webinars #GoalChatLive
Goals
- Judith: If you are a newbie, observe what does and doesn’t work; take notes. Keep your slides simple. If there is a snafu, remember you are the webinar
- Julie: Think outside the Zoom box. There are other platform you can explore, such as webinar.net; reach out to Julie if you want to learn about other options
- Brigette: As an attendee, if there’s too much text on sildes, closer your eyes and listen. As a presenter, know your material and practice for mishaps. Be yourself, be confident, and have fun
Final Thoughts
- Judith: Don’t do well what you have no business doing. If you never say no, your yeses are worthless
- Brigette: If you do what you love, you love what you do
- Julie: Know your why for your webinars
