Authenticity with Ron Ben-Joseph, Ethan Beute & Julie Riley

Authenticity is key to success. And so many elements go into bringing out your authentic self. This week’s vibrant conversation on authenticity features storytelling and speaking coach Ron Ben-Joseph; Chief Evangelist of BombBomb Ethan Beute; and Social Media Manager at StreamYard Julie Riley.

Is it fake it til you make it? Make it til you make it? Or build it til you make it?

A huge part of being authentic is embracing who you truly are. Ron, Ethan, and Julie share their thoughts on what authenticity is, how to tap into it, and more.

What is Authenticity?

Your imperfections are your perfections!

  • Ron: It’s a combination of listening, being in alignment with what feels right, and being able to express it freely
  • Ethan: It overlaps with Honesty, consistency, and integrity
  • Julie: Not being editied and polished

How to Showcase Your Authenticity

  • Julie: Use video. Practice.
  • Ethan: Develop your confidence. People make social judgments by evaluating warmth and confidence.
  • Ron: People’s authentic selves show up when others are in need. When doing videos, think about who you are talking to, what they want, and how you can solve it for them.

How to Be more Authentic in Business and Life

  • Ethan: Authenticity is based on your own (current) truth. Get behind the true value of what you are delivering. Julie: Who are your mentors? Who have you been watching and learning from? Take pieces to incorporate into who you are … and are becoming.
  • Ron: There are two kinds of people: those who try standup (or their own version) and those who don’t. When you think … and speak … on your feet, your authenticity comes out.

Goals from our Guests

  • Ethan: Create a gratitude habit. Keep a notebook and write down names when people come to mind. Then, time block – in 10-minute increments – and record .. and send … “thank you” video messages. Thank you is an easy message … if you mean it!
  • Ron: Try stand-up; put yourself in a position where you have to think on your feet. Your true self will arrive.
  • Julie:  Think about who you are and whether you are delivering yourself authentically. Write down what are the things you are doing that are authentic and what not so much. Ask yourself: What is stopping me from being who I want to be? What do I need to do? What do I have to share with the world?
