With the Tony Awards just a week away, I thought it would be fun to do a GoalChat on Musicals. My guests – Kristin Hanggi, Nico Juber, and Carrie Murray – are all long-time musical-lovers, as well as part of the “Millennials Are Killing Musicals” team. Nico is creator, Kristin is director, and Carrie is a co-producer of the show, an original pop-rock musical comedy about identity, motherhood, social media, and the algorithm.
There were plenty of trips down memory lane, as the panel discussed their early introductions to musicals, as well as favorites – then and now. Kristin, Nico, and Carrie also talked about the show itself, the creative process, the value of musicals and art, and more.
What is it About Musicals?
- Nico: Everyone has to work together to make this amazing thing happen
- Carrie: It’s live! It’s really human beings doing things we wish we can do
- Kristin: Watching: There’s an element of magic. Making them: Community problem solving
How Musicals Relate to Goals
- Kristen: It’s goal-setting with a team around art
- Nico: It’s the ultimate project management situation with multiple goals working in tandem
- Carrie: A musical is a business; you are looking for people to support you, believe in you, be part of its growth

- Carrie: Consume art. Go to a show, museum, keep art alive by showing up and paying for it
- Nico: Spend 10 minutes a day doing something creative
- Kristin: Find a moment to sing this week. Extra points for making up a silly song!
