The Business of Beverages Noah Bleich, Matthew Jonas & Hilary Sheinbaum

We talked about the Business of Beverages with Noah Bleich, The TeaBook; Matthew Jonas, Good Karma Cacao; and Hilary Sheinbaum, GoingDry.com, on this week’s GoalChat. I’ve done food-centric eps before, but this is the first time we’ve done drinks. While beverages are essential for health (water/hydration in particular), there are lifestyle benefits, as well. People bond over it (Hilary), they are magical/in motion (Noah), and they offer choice (Matthew).

The panel shared their business backstories and their love of certain liquids, along with advice for starting, promoting, and incorporating your passion into your business.

How to Brew a New Business

  • Hilary: Be specific with your vision, focus on your message, but also flexible and persistent
  • Noah: The key is the word business. Make sure there is a demand and need; be passionate and choose something that makes business sense
  • Matthew: The need may just be your need, so you need to do market testing

How to Make Your Business Stand Out

  • Noah: When you find your spin, make sure no one else has done it or does it as well. Figure out who you are making your product for
  • Matthew: Educate others. Get out there and share your product – offer tastings.
  • Hilary: Know what else is on the market; do your research and be open to feedback

Goals

  • Noah: Put things in your mouth that make you happy; it should bring joy or fix a problem. Make food fun again
  • Matthew: Find something you can do with thought and intention. Do something positive for you or the world
  • Hilary: Try new products once a week, connect with people in the industry you want to be part of

Final Thoughts

  • Hilary: Do a dry month. Just try it. You have nothing to lose
  • Matthew: Get cacao curious
  • Noah: There is no wrong way to drink tea, the same with your life and your business
