On this episode of GoalChat, I talked about creating community with Nina Amir, KeishaMarie Douglas, and Marc Mawhinney. Nina is author of Change the World One Book at a Time, KeishaMarie is founder of Veteran WingWomen.Org, and Marc Mawhinney is founder of Natural Born Coaches and The Coaching Jungle Facebook group.
The trio discussed the difference between creating community as an individual versus creating actual communities – Marc’s are online, KeishaMarie’s is in person, and, as an author, Nina does both. They also shared their takes on in-person and online connections, the value of being of service, and more.
Define Community
- Nina: People gathering around a topic or interest, and supporting each other
- Marc: Like-minded people; when you do them right, they take on a life of their own
- KeishaMarie: Finding out what other people like/are looking for
How to Maintain and Grow Online Communities
- Marc: Post things that are inspire conversation; have patience, be consistent, and give people edutainment; add perks for VIPs
- KeishaMarie: Create participation posts, stay on theme, run challenges for engagement
- Nina: Ask questions, share things that are going on with you, gamify when you can

Goals
- Marc: Talk up your community as often as possible; buy the domain for the name of your community and redirect it to your community. His is TheCoachingJungle.com
- Nina: Do something to build community that you will enjoy and follow-through on. Start a live show, a podcast, writing a weekly blog post
- KeishaMarie: Find a community, chat with a friend, find a wing-person for attending events

- KeishaMarie: Be authentic. Do the things
- Nina: Be easily found
- Marc: By taking action you become motivated. Take action
